Nearby Walking Areas

Today, we enjoyed some time with Wayne and Sue Arnett who are missionaries from Gilbert. He is an attorney and provides legal support to the Area. First, we went for a walk through a gated neighborhood where some of the rich folk live.



This is a map of the gated community and, as you can see, it is fairly large.



We hiked up a hill that was fairly steep but had steps. Here is a view from about half way up.

Later, we went to the central market of Guatemala City, as they call it. It was very much like the indoor market we went to in Antigua so I didn't take any photos of the many, many sales stands set up. However, they had a lower level almost completely committed to restaurants and selling produce.

The ladies had something different and weren't as pleased. The good news is I found a back scratcher to replace the one I must have left at the hotel where we stayed when we first got here.

The Trip Home - 2/08/2024   I thought I might hand out the last of my Jesus cards on one of the flights home so I had Mary take this photo. I am glad to have this picture to remind me of an important part of my Guatemala mission. I handed out approximately 700 Jesus cards in just under 18 months in Guatemala. In the beginning, I gave one to each cashier with whom we interacted in a store and with others who helped us. As we walked, I would hand one to various people we encountered if I felt prompted. Each time I gave one out, I pointed to my name badge and commented it was because of Jesus that we were there.  We were very excited to be met at the SLC airport by April, Emmett, Alli, Brooke and Maggie. It was a happy reunion and an opportunity to play with grandchildren. With that, I end the blog for our Guatemalan mission. Serving that mission truly has blessed us.

  Quetzaltenango Temple and Lake Atitlan - February 2023 Wednesday, we went to Quetzaltenango, over four hours away, to attend the temple and to see that part of Guatemala. .It was a beautiful day and we very much enjoyed our time in this beautiful temple. From there, we drove over 2 hours to Lake Atitlan. It is a beautiful, large lake which has several old volcanoes around it. Here are a few photos of where we stayed.  This is one of 6 cabins in an area close to the beach. Above is a view from the sitting area outside the upstairs bedroom. It was a beautiful area. The dining room table and chairs were quite unique, having been taken from large trees in the area. I thought I would throw in a picture of the living room and kitchen for memory's sake. Thursday morning, we took a boat ride across the lake to a town they call San Juan. This is the area, walking distance from our cabin, from which we launched.
