Thanksgiving 2022

Thanksgiving is not celebrated here, but due to the generosity of the Area attorney and his wife, Rob and Clare Lang, we had a wonderful dinner with other senior missionaries and mission presidents the Wednesday evening before. They were generous including providing a nice, carbonated fruit beverage for every couple.

I'm not sure what the occasion was but, later, we  got to watch fireworks out our window. Unfortunately, we didn't get a picture of the best ones. Those were quite impressive.

  Quetzaltenango Temple and Lake Atitlan - February 2023 Wednesday, we went to Quetzaltenango, over four hours away, to attend the temple and to see that part of Guatemala. .It was a beautiful day and we very much enjoyed our time in this beautiful temple. From there, we drove over 2 hours to Lake Atitlan. It is a beautiful, large lake which has several old volcanoes around it. Here are a few photos of where we stayed.  This is one of 6 cabins in an area close to the beach. Above is a view from the sitting area outside the upstairs bedroom. It was a beautiful area. Humanitarian Service in Central America A blessing that comes from our service in Central America is the opportunity to be aware of, and on occasion, support charitable work done by the Church for a number of organizations. These are examples from September. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made a delivery of medical equipment to the Ministry of Health of Nicaragua consisting of aluminum thermoses for storage of liquid nitrogen in which some 12,984 samples of infectious agents (viruses, bacteria, or any type of pathogen) can be stored. This was done with the aim of joining forces with the National Health System of Nicaragua in the fight against COVID-19 and other diseases. In solidarity with the people affected by the landslides in Colonia Guillen in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, from different areas of the city, joined in a labor of love by collecting food, clothing, personal hygiene kits, water and toys. Light the World Giving Machines 2023 Giving Machine season is here again. This year, however, the Area Communications team has four players besides us so our involvement has been less. The day before the launch, I was at the mini-warehouse where we store the three machines all year. I was there to give access to and to help those who came to prepare the machines. Here is a photo of those who came to change the surface coverings on the machines. After they stripped two of the machines, we learned that we only needed to replace the thin part on the front and one side. That is what we did on the third machine while regretting the extra time spent on the other two. The next day we held the kickoff at one of the malls in Guatemala City.
