Halloween 2022.


The Area President and his wife, Brian and Jill Taylor, invited us older missionaries to a Halloween gathering Monday evening. Here are some of the costumes that were worn. As you can see, another couple shops at Dollar City like we do.



Elder Taylor's aunt had a tradition of having a cake walk for holiday gatherings. Therefore, he and his wife put one together. I think he was the most animated walker of the group. Instead of cakes, we had Krispy Kreme donuts which Mary and I bought on our way home from the office. It was a fun gathering with wonderful food.



We walked home with several other couples and capped the night off with being stuck in the elevator in our apartment building. We didn't exceed the number of people which the sign said should enter the elevator at once. All we can figure is that, on the average, we weighed enough more than average Guatemalans, so we got stuck. They lowered us to the first parking level and most of us walked up so as to not take any more chances.

The Trip Home - 2/08/2024   I thought I might hand out the last of my Jesus cards on one of the flights home so I had Mary take this photo. I am glad to have this picture to remind me of an important part of my Guatemala mission. I handed out approximately 700 Jesus cards in just under 18 months in Guatemala. In the beginning, I gave one to each cashier with whom we interacted in a store and with others who helped us. As we walked, I would hand one to various people we encountered if I felt prompted. Each time I gave one out, I pointed to my name badge and commented it was because of Jesus that we were there.  We were very excited to be met at the SLC airport by April, Emmett, Alli, Brooke and Maggie. It was a happy reunion and an opportunity to play with grandchildren. With that, I end the blog for our Guatemalan mission. Serving that mission truly has blessed us.

  Quetzaltenango Temple and Lake Atitlan - February 2023 Wednesday, we went to Quetzaltenango, over four hours away, to attend the temple and to see that part of Guatemala. .It was a beautiful day and we very much enjoyed our time in this beautiful temple. From there, we drove over 2 hours to Lake Atitlan. It is a beautiful, large lake which has several old volcanoes around it. Here are a few photos of where we stayed.  This is one of 6 cabins in an area close to the beach. Above is a view from the sitting area outside the upstairs bedroom. It was a beautiful area. The dining room table and chairs were quite unique, having been taken from large trees in the area. I thought I would throw in a picture of the living room and kitchen for memory's sake. Thursday morning, we took a boat ride across the lake to a town they call San Juan. This is the area, walking distance from our cabin, from which we launched.
