Visiting Belize with Kevin and his Family - January 2023

We were delighted to meet Kevin and his family in Belize for a little vacation. Kevin served a good chunk of his mission there, and it is part of the Central America Area.



This is a look out of the front door of the place where we stayed. Very nice!



We stayed on San Pedro Island which is across a bay from the Belize mainland. This is the plane that flew us there from Belize City.



Kevin and his family walked out on the dock that was in front of where we stayed.



 I didn't get a good picture of this woman carrying the goods they sought to sell on her head, as she left for home at the end of the day. We learned that all beaches are public and so they hung their goods on our fence and sat in the shade of the dock waiting for customers.



The branch on the island has sacrament meeting in the morning for visitors to the island and the full block in the evening for local members. Kevin and I went back in the evening in hopes of meeting people he knew. This brother was the branch president when Kevin served there and I think he recognized Kevin immediately. We took them home in our golf cart and enjoyed visiting with them. 



Here is some of the wildlife we came across as we walked towards the beach.



The other adults said they wanted to get up in time to see the sunrise out in our "front yard." They didn't make it so I took pictures for them.



So, the golf cart is the transportation mode of choice on the island. My guess there are 20 of them to each car. This is what we rode around in as well.



We ate at several restaurants on the beach and the food was excellent.



This picture was taken as they were seated in front of the San Pedro large cement sign. 



Kevin's two oldest boys enjoyed doing puzzles and other activities on Mary's iPad. Of course, I loved doing them with them.



Here is a photo from the plane in which we flew back to Belize City. We were up close and personal with the pilot. Another passenger was in the seat next to him.
We had a great time and are so glad we could be with Kevin and his family.

The Trip Home - 2/08/2024   I thought I might hand out the last of my Jesus cards on one of the flights home so I had Mary take this photo. I am glad to have this picture to remind me of an important part of my Guatemala mission. I handed out approximately 700 Jesus cards in just under 18 months in Guatemala. In the beginning, I gave one to each cashier with whom we interacted in a store and with others who helped us. As we walked, I would hand one to various people we encountered if I felt prompted. Each time I gave one out, I pointed to my name badge and commented it was because of Jesus that we were there.  We were very excited to be met at the SLC airport by April, Emmett, Alli, Brooke and Maggie. It was a happy reunion and an opportunity to play with grandchildren. With that, I end the blog for our Guatemalan mission. Serving that mission truly has blessed us.

  Quetzaltenango Temple and Lake Atitlan - February 2023 Wednesday, we went to Quetzaltenango, over four hours away, to attend the temple and to see that part of Guatemala. .It was a beautiful day and we very much enjoyed our time in this beautiful temple. From there, we drove over 2 hours to Lake Atitlan. It is a beautiful, large lake which has several old volcanoes around it. Here are a few photos of where we stayed.  This is one of 6 cabins in an area close to the beach. Above is a view from the sitting area outside the upstairs bedroom. It was a beautiful area. The dining room table and chairs were quite unique, having been taken from large trees in the area. I thought I would throw in a picture of the living room and kitchen for memory's sake.
