Unique things in Guatemala


I have posted about motorcycles before and how families will travel on the same one. This photo shows the most family members we have seen on one motorcycle. We count at least six.





We went to dinner at an Indian restaurant one night with Wayne and Kathy Gelder. This was on display right outside the door. This photo does not do justice to the very detailed engravings in the two elephant tusks on the side.




Finally, we thought we would share a difference in road construction here and back home. We go past a long stretch of road construction on our way to church on Sundays. Rather than have a spray system hooked up to a water truck, they have a man standing back there to do all of the spraying.

The Trip Home - 2/08/2024   I thought I might hand out the last of my Jesus cards on one of the flights home so I had Mary take this photo. I am glad to have this picture to remind me of an important part of my Guatemala mission. I handed out approximately 700 Jesus cards in just under 18 months in Guatemala. In the beginning, I gave one to each cashier with whom we interacted in a store and with others who helped us. As we walked, I would hand one to various people we encountered if I felt prompted. Each time I gave one out, I pointed to my name badge and commented it was because of Jesus that we were there.  We were very excited to be met at the SLC airport by April, Emmett, Alli, Brooke and Maggie. It was a happy reunion and an opportunity to play with grandchildren. With that, I end the blog for our Guatemalan mission. Serving that mission truly has blessed us.

Back to my high school years. This cool mannequin is wearing the same shoes I wore in high school. I have a pair now, thanks to Dallin and Jocey, who are committed to perpetuating my coolness.

  Quetzaltenango Temple and Lake Atitlan - February 2023 Wednesday, we went to Quetzaltenango, over four hours away, to attend the temple and to see that part of Guatemala. .It was a beautiful day and we very much enjoyed our time in this beautiful temple. From there, we drove over 2 hours to Lake Atitlan. It is a beautiful, large lake which has several old volcanoes around it. Here are a few photos of where we stayed.  This is one of 6 cabins in an area close to the beach. Above is a view from the sitting area outside the upstairs bedroom. It was a beautiful area. The dining room table and chairs were quite unique, having been taken from large trees in the area. I thought I would throw in a picture of the living room and kitchen for memory's sake. Thursday morning, we took a boat ride across the lake to a town they call San Juan. This is the area, walking distance from our cabin, from which we launched.
