The Guatemala Press Club - April 2023 



We were asked to represent the Area Communications Department at some celebrations by the Freedom of the Press Group (Periodistas de Guatemala) Wednesday afternoon and Thursday night. Wednesday we went with Karen and Jeniffer, but Thursday we were on our own. There was a panel on Wednesday representing groups that had benefited the group. Karen is on the far right. The Church donated several computer tables and chairs for their research area. 




Thursday evening, they unveiled a painting representing the 75 year history of the group. The artist is a member of the Church. His wife introduced herself to us. She was most pleased to see her husbands work being honored and had many friends and family there.



For just over an hour on Thursday evening, a marimba band entertained us. They were high energy and obviously enthused about what they were doing. They were very gracious afterwards when we went up to compliment them. The lady towards the left with the blond hair is the First Lady of the Dominican Republic. She seemed to remember us from the temple groundbreaking ceremony in December.

The Trip Home - 2/08/2024   I thought I might hand out the last of my Jesus cards on one of the flights home so I had Mary take this photo. I am glad to have this picture to remind me of an important part of my Guatemala mission. I handed out approximately 700 Jesus cards in just under 18 months in Guatemala. In the beginning, I gave one to each cashier with whom we interacted in a store and with others who helped us. As we walked, I would hand one to various people we encountered if I felt prompted. Each time I gave one out, I pointed to my name badge and commented it was because of Jesus that we were there.  We were very excited to be met at the SLC airport by April, Emmett, Alli, Brooke and Maggie. It was a happy reunion and an opportunity to play with grandchildren. With that, I end the blog for our Guatemalan mission. Serving that mission truly has blessed us.

  Quetzaltenango Temple and Lake Atitlan - February 2023 Wednesday, we went to Quetzaltenango, over four hours away, to attend the temple and to see that part of Guatemala. .It was a beautiful day and we very much enjoyed our time in this beautiful temple. From there, we drove over 2 hours to Lake Atitlan. It is a beautiful, large lake which has several old volcanoes around it. Here are a few photos of where we stayed.  This is one of 6 cabins in an area close to the beach. Above is a view from the sitting area outside the upstairs bedroom. It was a beautiful area. The dining room table and chairs were quite unique, having been taken from large trees in the area. I thought I would throw in a picture of the living room and kitchen for memory's sake. Thursday morning, we took a boat ride across the lake to a town they call San Juan. This is the area, walking distance from our cabin, from which we launched.
