Lucy Louise Lunt, October 25, 2008 - November 18, 2023

Lucy, apx. 6 months                                                   Lucy, age 14

Late Friday night, we had gotten a family text from Chad saying that Lucy was in the hospital due to a mucos plug that the nurse wasn´t able to remove. Her heart had stopped, but they were able to revive her, and things appeared to be improving. The next morning, we got the text that she had passed away around 11:30p.m. after them trying for quite a while to resuscitate her. Even though she was only expected to live until she was 18 months and had made it to her 15th birthday, we were shocked and devestated.

Cherisse and Chad, along with many nurses and helpers were able to give Lucy a great life. Cherisse particularly advocated for Lucy at every level and made it possible for her to be as comfortable and independent as possible. Lucy loved to sing, draw, write, be on her ipad and explore new technology. Whenever we talked with her over the computer she was always so nice and kind, even if she was tired. It has been a blessing to read the Instagram posts from Cherisse since the funeral. They have let us see parts of Lucy's life that we hadn't known before. We love Lucy and miss her so much.

There have been many blessings come from such a hard thing. One, is to see our children all rally around Chad and his family. All of the other seven children came out to the funeral in Menlo Park, California. Some came with their entire family and some alone.

Another blessing was the incredible kindness that Chad and Cherisse's friends gave to us. They arranged for housing for all of us with families in the ward and stake, put on a Thanksgiving dinner for us and helped with anything they possibly could. This not only covered our family of 40, but also Cherisse's family of more than 40. It was amazing!

We left Wednesday morning to fly from Guatemala City to San Francisco. It was quite the ordeal to find flights over the holidays and appreciated the help of the Area Office travel department. We flew by way of Panama, and then to San Francisco. Kevin picked us up around midnight. Laura, Jay and we stayed in a beautiful home of one of their friends.

Cherisse's sisters really put in an amazing effort to decorate the foyers of the stake center and the Annex building next to it, in honor of Lucy. Several from our family helped and you can see Kevin and Laura  here. They really did an amazing job honoring and remembering Lucy. The funeral service was beautiful, including talks by all of Lucy's immediate family. Many teachers and nurses who had served Lucy came and were honored by the family. The ward and stake members were really nice to us and fed us before the services. Lucy certainly has influenced many people for good, and continues to do so.

Melanie and  family made the long drive from Texas with a one-week old addition to the family - Layla. They took advantage of having so much family together  to have the baby blessing. A family in the ward completely vacated their house so Melanie's family could stay there. This is where Joe performed the blessing and we were delighted to be able to be a part of it.

We flew to our home in Utah Saturday night and then drove up to the burial in Idaho Monday morning. Chad had bought the burial plots when Lucy was a baby and it was a beautiful spot close to where Cherisse had grown up. We opted to stay in Utah and do our mission stuff remotely in order to get a flight back. It was nice to be with family another week.
